Written by Zoe Lacey-Cooper, event director of Accountex Summit North: The MTD deferment was by far the biggest news to hit the profession and to be honest it was not a surprise! The practitioners now have some tangible time to ensure that technology and processes are in place to ensure that their clients are up to speed. This is their opportunity to get some breathing space and go back to basics in terms of taking some small ‘Tech steps’ to be ‘Tech ready’ when MTD really does happen. Even if it’s just small steps in looking at their social media, converting to the cloud or looking at stack apps to further enhance the existing software their clients use.
Although the profession initially breathed a sigh of relief, the MTD deferment had a big knock on effect on some of our exhibitors, as well as those software technology companies who had been working hard to developed their products. Most had to take a step back and review how the next 12 months where going to look in terms of their development strategies. MTD may have been delayed, but the Government is still pushing forward for the UK to be the most digitally advanced country by 2020, and that still means that the software companies are as dedicated and focused to MTD as they always were.
Describe the accounting profession in 5 words or less:
Tech Savvy, Tech Curious or Tech Cautious?, it’s a ‘Tech step’ journey that we are on – just at different stages!
